Kevin Artl joins ACEC-IL as President and CEO after having served as Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority since 2016. As COO, Artl oversees operation of the state's 294-mile tollway system with a $1.3 billion annual budget. Under Artl’s leadership as Chief Operating Officer, the Tollway has championed economic growth and innovative ideas that provide a better experience for customers and all who do business with the Tollway.
Illinois Tollway accomplishments under Artl’s leadership include delivering the Illinois Route 390 and flipping the switch on the new I-90 SmartRoad. A key focus for the Tollway under Artl’s leadership has been creating meaningful opportunities for minorities, veterans, women and small businesses. Artl played a critical role in enhancing the region’s transportation network with the infrastructure of tomorrow, including the planning of the I-490 Tollway and the rebuilding of the Central Tri-State Tollway (I-294).
Prior to joining the Illinois Tollway, Artl has had an extensive career in Illinois government and politics, having served in a multitude policy, legislative and campaign roles. Artl’s previous work includes serving as U.S. Senator Mark Kirk’s state director and campaign manager. He also served as a Political Director for the House Republican Organization and Director of Policy for the Illinois House Republican Caucus.
Artl is a graduate of Chicago’s Loyola University. He resides in Naperville with his wife, Maureen, and their three children.
