Andrew Mendelson

Andrew D. Mendelson, FAIA, is Executive Vice President and Chief Risk Management Officer of Berkley Alliance Managers (BAM), a member of W.R. Berkley Corporation - a Fortune 500 insurance company. Andy joined BAM in July 2013. Andy has over 47 years of experience in his career as a licensed architect including being a firm principal with a diverse background of practice, project, financial, operations and risk management experience particularly in the large A/E firm environment. He has held corporate leadership positions as CFO, Contracting Officer and Director of the Education market sector at OWP/P (Chicago) and prior to joining BAM served as Director of Practice Management for CannonDesign. Andy is an acknowledged design industry leader in the area of risk management and contracting for design and construction professionals. He has advanced the development and publishing of industry standard contracts through leadership of and engagement with AIA Documents Committee (active member 2003 - 2017) in multiple forms of project delivery including design-bid-build, construction management, design-build, and IPD. He is currently an active member of the ACEC Risk Management Committee. Andy directs Berkley Alliance Manager’s value-added service initiatives to design and construction professionals in providing leading-edge risk and practice management resources, tools and training with a focus on key contracting, business, project management and project delivery issues affecting architects, engineers and other design consultants. Andy attained a B.S. degree in Architectural Studies from the University of Illinois (highest honors) and a business management certification from the Kellogg School of Management of Northwestern University. He was recognized as a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects in 2011 for his leadership in professional services contracting. Andy is based in Chicago, Illinois.
