Roger Guilian, J.D., CRIS, is a Senior Vice President and Client Executive with EPIC Insurance Brokers & Consultants. Roger joined EPIC in August 2022, bringing 24 years of litigation and risk management experience, including 18 years with an ACEC Member Firm, to EPIC’s Architects & Engineers specialty practice—known as EPIC Construction & Design/Greyling. Roger produces new business, provides concierge risk consulting for existing clients, works to expand EPIC’s presence throughout the United States, and serves as Program Manager of the ACEC Business Insurance Trust, for which EPIC serves as the Program Administrator. Roger served as a Trustee on the Business Insurance Trust himself prior to joining EPIC.
Roger entered the engineering and design professional industry in August 2004 when he became General Counsel of an ENR Top-100 civil engineering firm after six rewarding and successful years in private practice. Prior to going in-house, Roger was an active litigator, trying dozens of insurance defense jury trials and litigating hundreds of suits to favorable resolutions.
During his 18-year in-house tenure, Roger gained extensive experience and knowledge in matters affecting risk and legal exposure to engineers, their firms, and other design professionals, including contracts and enterprise risk management, professional liability insurance, and defense of professional liability errors & omissions claims. Roger has attained his CRIS® designation as a certified Construction Risk & Insurance Specialist through the International Risk Management Institute (IRMI).
Roger is a 1995 magna cum laude graduate of The University of Alabama and a 1998 graduate of The University of Alabama School of Law, where he excelled as an advocate on the law school’s championship Trial Advocacy Competition teams and wrote the Best Paper in the Spring 1998 Damages class. Roger is deeply engaged in industry and engineering associations through which he has cultivated a nationwide network of friends and colleagues in the construction, design professional, insurance, and risk management space. Roger currently serves on the ACEC Risk Management Committee, ACEC Business Resources & Education Committee, and the American Bar Association’s Forum on Construction Law.
Roger is a frequent industry speaker throughout the United States and has presented on legal, risk, and insurance issues facing design professionals at the Design Professionals Coalition, EFCG CEO & CFO Conferences, ACEC Annual Convention, ACEC Fall Conference, the ACEC Deep South Convention, ACEC-Alabama, ACEC-Florida, ACEC-Texas, ACEC-Ohio, and many other events.
An advocate for design professionals, Roger has been integral in the passage of legislation favorable to design professionals in several states, including Alabama’s 2021 anti-indemnification and duty-to-defend statute, Alabama’s 2014 CEI immunity statute, Oregon’s 2024 anti-indemnification statute, and Wisconsin’s 2024 anti-indemnification and duty-to-defend statute. Roger is a member in good standing of the Alabama State Bar and the Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States, and he is a licensed Property & Casualty Insurance Broker in all fifty (50) states.
Roger and his wife, Leslie, are the proud parents of a son, two daughters, and two Boykin Spaniels. The Guilians reside in Fairhope, Alabama.
